“B*tch, I Got Notes For You, Too”: Kieran Culkin Shares How He Felt Working Under Jesse Eisenberg As His Director

Kieran Culkin has been in the limelight since the awards season started, chiefly for his role in ‘Succession‘ and the commendable work he has done in it. Apart from his on-screen performance, the actor has been hitting headlines for the attitude he carries on the dais as well.

After winning a series of awards, the actor took a healthy dig at Pedro Pascal, his rival nominee for the awards. The fun banter both had during the ceremonies has put them in a comedic limelight. In another such banter, Culkin has this time taken a censored dig at his co-actor and director Jesse Eisenberg.

Kieran Culkin has had many recent mic-drop moments at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Emmys. Now the ‘Succession’ star is carrying the same energy forward at the Sundance Film Festival. Culkin was at the Eccles Theater on Saturday for the world premiere of ‘A Real Pain’, along with his collaborators, when he took a humorous dig at Jesse Eisenberg

A Real Pain‘ is a film directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who also stars in the movie along with Culkin, Will Sharpe, and Jennifer Grey. The narrative of the film revolves around mismatched cousins on a Poland tour to honor their grandmother. While the movie was a great hit, with a standing ovation at the end, its post-screening Q&A was also full of laughter.

After the screening of the movie, Culkin opened up about his experience working with Eisenberg, but it wasn’t without a dig at him. “There was a pretty good rapport right away,” Culkin said. “But right after the first scene, he’d be like, ‘Cut,’ and start giving me notes. And my first thought is, like, bitch, I got notes for you, too. I don’t want to be noted by an actor. Get out of here. Fuck you,” he added.

Eisenberg laughed the comment off as he embraced the banter. In a separate interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eisenberg said he admires Culkin’s performance in the movie. He even compared it with some iconic moments in cinema history.

I’ve never seen a greater performance in person, and maybe on screen, except, I don’t know, On the Waterfront, and I don’t even remember it that well,” he said.

Eisenberg also shared the backstory behind casting Culkin. He revealed how his sister played a crucial role in casting Culkin. “My sister read 20 pages of my script, and she said that there’s only one person in the world that could play this part. I said, ‘Who?’ And she said, ‘Kieran Culkin,’” he said.

She loves Succession, and I hadn’t seen it. So, I looked it up, and it immediately became clear that he’s just perfect for this because he can bring a sense of humor, as well as an intensity, that makes this character so unknowable,” he added.

Culkin’s plate for now is full with award shows and film premieres, but the actor is looking for a change of pace back in New York. “I’m going to turn the world off for about a week and just be a dad. ‘Did you read the email?’ No, I did not. [I’m doing] nothing at all, except just diapers and bath time and stuff for like a week,” Culkin said.
