    2023 has been a year of joy and sorrow alike for Hollywood. While several excellent movies broke records as they hit the silver screen this year, the industry lost some great actors and artists. From music and movies to sports and beyond, several deaths hit the industry. While some deaths were shocking, some others were deeply mournful.

    While the industry as well as fans across the world mourned these deaths, many still haven’t been able to process them. Here are the top 10 deaths that shook Hollywood and fans across the globe to the core.

    Andre Braugher

    Known and loved for his role as Caption Holt on the show ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘, Andre Braugher died of a brief illness on December 11. The death came off as a huge shock to fans across the world as no one was expecting the actor to bid adieu to the world at the age of 61. An acclaimed actor, who was also popular for his role in ‘Homicide: Life on the Street‘, Braugher received much love after his death. His co-stars, including Terry Crews, paid their tributes, as they recalled him as a talented actor and a lovable human being. He is survived by his wife Ami Brabson and their children.

    Mathew Perry

    Mathew Perry’s death was perhaps the deepest shock to the entire world. Famous as the widely loved character of Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom ‘Friends‘, Mathew Perry died on October 28. His body was found at his Los Angeles residence. The reasons for his death were not clear, though the authorities ruled out the possibility of drugs or alcohol being involved despite his infamous, long-time struggle with addiction.

    Another death that left the world in shock was that of the rising star Angus Cloud. Widely known and loved for his character on the show ‘Euphoria‘, Angus Cloud died at the tender age of 25 years in July. Confirming his death, his family released a statement stating that he struggled heavily with mental health issues before his death. They also urged people not to suffer from mental health problems in silence. The actor was open about his issues, which made his death even more poignant for his fans.

    Shane MacGowan

    The Irish singer-songwriter and the lead of ‘The Pogues‘, died at the age of 65 on November 30. He gave the music industry several hits with one of the most popular ones being the timeless holiday favorite ‘Fairytale of New York‘. Shane MacGowan was hospitalized for encephalitis. His wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, shared a touching tribute after his death as she remarked that he was the light in her life.

    Suzanne Somers

    Actress Suzanne Somers, popular for her roles in ‘Three’s Company’ and ‘Step by Step’, died on October 15 at the age of 76. She died after battling breast cancer for over 23 years. Somers saw the end coming and spent her final moments surrounded by her family and friends. Confirming her death, her publicist acknowledged that the actress lived an extraordinary life and thanked millions of fans for their love.

    Bo Goldman

    An acclaimed two-time Oscar-winning screenwriter, Bo Goldman died at the age of 90 on July 26. He was best known for co-writing ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. Several celebrities grieved his death and offered a tribute to the screenwriter. Danny DeVito said he admired Goldman and it was a dream come true for him to have worked with a talent like him.

    Tina Turner

    Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, died at her home near Zurich in Switzerland after a long illness. The music legend’s spokesperson confirmed her death and acknowledged the loss of a role model and music icon. The world mourned the end of an era with Turner’s death.

    Jock Zonfrillo

    The popular host of ‘MasterChef Australia’ Jock Zonfrillo’s sudden death was unbelievable for his fans. He died at the age of 46  on May 1 — which was also the day that the premiere of the show’s 15th season was set to air. The reason for his death was not immediately disclosed. Zonfrillo’s family confirmed the news.

    Paul Grant

    Actor and stuntman Paul Grant, popular for his work in fantasy film franchises like ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Harry Potter, passed away at the age of 56 in March. His daughter Sophie confirmed his death. He is remembered as a great actor and a human being who touched many lives with his kindness and good heart. “My dad was a legend,” she said in a statement. “Everyone loved him so much: his daughter, son, girlfriend, stepchildren, grandchildren and step-grandchildren, too.”

    Jacky Oh

    Former ‘Wild ‘N Out’ star Jacky Oh died at the age of 32 in June. A BET Media Group spokesperson confirmed her death. Oh was widely remembered for her talent and impact on the show. Her sudden death at such a young age left fans and the entertainment community in mourning.

    Though these amazing stars have taken a leave from the world, their work continues to resonate with their peers and fans. As we enter the new year in a few days, these stars would remain as fond memories with us.
