Amid the deadly war underway in Gaza, social media has become a breeding ground for false information and propaganda news. While many celebrities have come forward to voice their opinions against the barbarian injustice going on in Gaza, many have also openly supported it.
Chris Evans had become a target of social media hate after an image of him signing what looked like an Israeli bomb went viral on social media. The ‘Captain America‘ actor has come forward with clarification after the resurfaced photo of him gained traction. Here’s what he said.
Chris Evans Addresses His Viral Photo After Receiving Significant Backlash
Chris Evans has come clean about the resurfaced picture of him signing what initially appeared to be a missile spark controversy and drew ample flak on social media. The actor clarified that the image was taken eight years ago, and began circulating on social media this week. This led some fans to wrongly criticize the actor for autographing what they claimed to be an Israeli bomb.
Evans took to his Instagram Story on Thursday to shut down the accusations. “There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding this picture. Some clarification: This image was taken during a USO tour in 2016,” Evans wrote in his story.
“I went with a group of actors, athletes and musicians to show appreciation for our service members. The object I was asked to sign is not a bomb, or a missile, or a weapon of any kind,” he added.
“It’s an inert object used for training or display purposes only. You can read the quote from the Air Force in the next story,” he added and also shared a screenshot of an Agence France-Presse article as proof for his statement.

Chris Evans Viral Photo Dates Back To 2016
The photograph in question was reportedly taken when Evans was in Turkey to honor the U.S. troops during a December 2016 holiday tour. His visit was sponsored by the United Service Organizations, as confirmed by an Air Force spokesperson to AFP.
“The object Chris Evans is signing in the USO tour photo from 2016 is an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) inert training aid. The object is meant to model an artillery shell and is for display and training purposes only,” the officer’s statement clarified.
The backlash against Evans grew stronger especially because the photo resurfaced days after presidential hopeful Nikki Haley was photographed signing an Israeli artillery shell with the words “finish them” amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
Days before that, an Israeli airstrike reportedly killed dozens of people taking shelter in the refugee camp in Rafah, on May 26. Most of the people killed were women and children, sheltering in a tent camp in southern Gaza city.
