Christina Applegate has opened up about a very personal chapter from her teenage years, and it involves a crush that left a lasting impact on her life.
While working on her new memoir ‘You With the Sad Eyes‘, the actress revisited the journals she kept as a teenager and discovered just how much of those pages revolved around Johnny Depp.
Christina Applegate Says She Loved Johnny Depp For A Long Time

As Applegate went back through those old journals, one thing quickly became obvious: Johnny Depp’s name appeared again and again. She had started writing those entries when she was around 15, and they captured her teenage emotions in real time.

Looking at those pages today, the actress says the message is unmistakable. “One thing is very clear from the journals: I was in love with Johnny Depp for years,” she writes in the memoir. At the time, Depp was already a rising TV star thanks to his role on the hit cop series, ‘21 Jump Street‘.
Their paths crossed when Applegate guest-starred on the show. From there, things gradually became more social. She ended up becoming part of Depp’s wider friend group and began spending more time around him.
Naturally, that meant she saw him quite often. Applegate even visited the ‘21 Jump Street‘ set in Vancouver while the show was filming. As a result, the crush she already had only grew stronger.
Johnny Depp Treated The Actress As “One Of The Guys”

Applegate looks back at that period much more clearly now. While she was deeply infatuated with Depp, he never seemed to view their relationship as romantic. “He was eight years older than me,” Applegate writes in the memoir. “He always behaved impeccably toward me, even though I was clearly mad about him.”

The realizations were hard to ignore. “It seems that back then I was just one of the guys to him,” she admits.
But that’s not the end of this teenage obsession. The memoir also includes some of those original journal entries, mentioning, “I’ve been having really strange dreams about Johnny of all people,” she wrote in one entry. “I can’t really analyze them because I don’t remember what they are once I wake up. I can only remember who’s in them… Johnny.”
Elsewhere in the journals, Applegate tried to make sense of her feelings and the situation she found herself in. Meanwhile, Depp’s own romantic life appeared to be moving in another direction.
Eventually, Applegate moved forward with her own life and relationships. She later married actor Johnathon Schaech, although the couple divorced in 2007.
