‘Superman‘ actor Christopher Reeve has often shared insights into his life after the accident that left him paralyzed. Since then, Reeves earned the constant support of fans as he dealt with his injury and one person stood with him throughout it all — his wife Dana.
In a recent documentary about the actor, Reeve is heard disclosing how the help from his wife became his lifeline support as he navigated through life after the accident. Here’s how his wife’s words saved his life.

How Did Dana Save Christopher Reeve’s Life?
In a 1995 horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down, ‘Superman‘ star Christopher Reeve went through an immense crisis after realizing his life would never be the same again. In a recent trailer for a documentary on his life, the actor is seen talking about how he was willing to die before his wife’s words completely changed his outlook on life.
In the trailer for ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,‘ Reeve says, “I ruined my life and everybody else’s. I won’t be able to ski, sail, throw a ball to Will. Won’t be able to make love to Dana. Maybe we should let me go.’”
He then reveals how his wife said seven words to him that completely changed his perspective. “And then she said the words that saved my life: ‘You’re still you. And I love you,'” he recalls his wife saying.
Brought to fans by DC studios, the film is expected to be a poignant glimpse at the actor’s rise to popularity and the unwavering spirit that led him to become an activist and advocate for others suffering from paralysis after his own accident. It will be released in select cinemas next month.
Reeve also co-founded the Reeve-Irvine Research Center and served as the director of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation as part of his advocacy work.

Christopher Reeve’s Horse Riding Incident
Christopher Reeve had a tragic accident on May 27, 1995, at an equestrian competition in Culpeper, Virginia. He suffered a serious spinal cord injury that made him unable to move from the neck down after he was thrown from his horse and fell on his head. Reeve was competing when his horse suddenly broke loose, causing him to tumble to the ground.
Reeve was found unresponsive and not breathing in spite of wearing a helmet and protective vest. He was brought back to consciousness using mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
According to the Washington Post, Reeve’s neurosurgeon, Dr. John A. Jane, stated that the actor had severe damage to his spinal cord and fractures to his top two cervical vertebrae, the most serious kind of spinal injury.
He had to rely on a ventilator to breathe as a result of the injuries, which significantly changed his life.
