Anna Kendrick is whisking us back to 2009 with an endearing and cheekily revealing anecdote about her ‘Up in the Air‘ co-star, George Clooney. The actor is considered one of the legendary names in Hollywood and is still known to carry his legacy with grace and charm. Kendrick, who worked with him for the first time, was no exception to his gentlemanly behavior.
In an interview last week with CNN’s Chris Wallace, Kendrick couldn’t help but swoon over the Hollywood icon, sharing how Clooney made her feel comfortable on set — but, of course, not without a little of his trademark élan.
Anna Kendrick Recalls George Clooney’s Humble Attitude On Sets
Speaking during the interview, Anna Kendrick said, “He’s kind of capital G, George, and he works really hard to make you forget that and feel comfortable.” Using a hilarious recall of her first day on set, Kendrick spoke of an amusing experience Clooney staged to quell her pre-shooting jitters. “The very, very first shot that he and I did together was my first shot in the movie,” she remembered.
On a people mover, waiting for the camera to roll, Clooney turned to her and said, “God, do you get nervous on the first day? I get so nervous. Do you get insecure? I get really insecure.” Of course, Kendrick, being a young actress sharing the screen with an actor as great as George Clooney, related immediately.

“I was like, ‘Yes, I do, George, I do. I totally get nervous. I totally get insecure,'” she laughed. Clooney continued his self-doubt spiel, even going as far as to say, “Yeah, I worry, like, did they even hire the right guy?”
While this gives a very humble impression of Clooney despite being one of Hollywood’s biggest actors, the story has a twist.
George Clooney’s Charming Nervousness Helped Anna Kendrick A Great Deal
Anna Kendrick further revealed that she later learned that George Clooney’s whole scene was “complete fiction”. “It wasn’t for years that suddenly that memory popped into my brain, and I thought, ‘No, he does not. No, he does not get nervous and he does not get insecure,'” Kendrick said.

However, the moment was a gift in helping her to feel at ease and be welcomed — though it is apparent that Clooney was simply working his magic.
Their upcoming film, ‘Up in the Air’, by Jason Reitman, garnered Oscar nominations for both Kendrick and Clooney together with best picture, best director, and best-adapted screenplay. The film itself became a critical success but Clooney’s nuanced magic still lingers within Kendrick’s mind to date.
