George Clooney’s movies have often included a bit of romance. So, kissing scenes came naturally with many of his roles. As fans, we have always seen Clooney from that passionate, leading-man image.
But now, Clooney has hinted that those romantic moments may no longer be something he wants to do on screen. And you’ll be surprised to know that his wife had a big role to play in this decision.
Romance Was Always Part Of George Clooney’s Heartthrob Image

George Clooney became a household name in 1994 when he joined ‘ER‘ as Dr. Doug Ross. The role instantly turned him into a heartthrob and opened the door to film roles where romance played a big part. Over the years, Clooney kissed several co-stars on screen, ending with ‘Ticket to Paradise‘. But initially, it wasn’t easy for him either.

In a 2022 interview with The New York Times, Clooney shared a memory from the early 1980s when a director stopped him during a kissing scene and told him not to do it that way. Clooney said he was surprised, as he thought that approach felt natural to him. But time has done its magic, and he’s no longer in his 30s. Now that the Jay Kelly actor is past 60, he’s finally reconsidering a major decision.
Clooney has been open about how age has changed the way he looks at certain roles. Earlier this year, he told 60 Minutes that he no longer plans to star in romantic films. At 63, he said he is not trying to compete with actors in their twenties. Even though he’s very fit and very much into sports, he certainly doesn’t have the look of a 30-year-old. And that realization came after a conversation with his wife, Amal Clooney.
A Conversation With Amal After Turning 60 Changed Clooney’s Hollywood Outlook

In a new interview with the Daily Mail, Clooney said they talked seriously about aging when he turned 60. He explained that while he feels strong now, reaching 85 one day is a reality that cannot be avoided, no matter how healthy he stays.

After that talk with his wife, Clooney made a clear decision. He said he will no longer kiss female co-stars on screen. He explained that he wants to take a similar path to Paul Newman and step away from that part of acting. He’s at such a stage in his life that it simply feels like the right move.
However, that doesn’t mean that we’ll have to say goodbye to Clooney in Hollywood. Very recently, his Netflix movie ‘Jay Kelly‘ was released, in which George Clooney played a famous actor with many complex layers. Sure, it isn’t romantic, but by the end of the movie, you’ll be absolutely devastated.
