Pauley Perrette started her career back in 1990 and gained much recognition worldwide when she was cast as Abby Sciuto in CBS ‘NCIS’. But the actress doesn’t have any intentions to return to acting anymore.
Her last major screen credit was the starring role in the CBS sitcom ‘Broke’, which ran for only one season and Perrette announced her retirement shortly thereafter. Now she has clarified that she will “never return” to the screen. Here’s what she said.
Pauley Perrette Feels Acting Was A Form Of Escapism For Her
Abby Sciuto from ‘NCIS’ recently clarified during an interview with Hello! that she is leaving acting. The actress isn’t ungrateful for the benefits she received from her career, but she seemingly needs to quit for her own sanity.
Pauley Perrette said, “But I’m a different person now and I want to be here for it – the good and the bad and the painful. I want to be me all the time, and it takes a good amount of courage for me to say that to myself but it’s authentically how I feel.”
Perrette clarified she feels she should find a deeper meaning in her life, while being an actor was just an escape for her. “It’s like a drug because I didn’t have to be me, I could be somebody else,” she said.
“My character didn’t have all of the problems that I was having…It’s why I only watch documentaries, I want the truth. For me, going back to being an actor would be taking away from this life of true authenticity that I’m living 100% of the time,” the actress added.
Pauley Perrette Will Not Grace The Screens Now
Other than her own shows, Pauley Perrette has built a great resume that includes guest appearances on television shows like ‘Frasier’ and performances in movies like ‘Almost Famous’.
Perrette stayed with the ‘NCIS’, which started in 2003, till 2018 and included 15 seasons and 352 episodes. Her character quickly became a fan favorite and even crossed over onto episodes of franchise spin-offs like ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ and ‘NCIS: New Orleans’.

‘NCIS‘ is still on television, although Perrette most certainly is not. For now, the actress is staying away from acting, although recent news of Daniel Day-Lewis ending his retirement after seven years might give her fans hope for her return to the screen.
