Controversial Film producer Harvey Weinstein, who has long been a topic of debate and discussion in Hollywood due to his controversial actions and statements, has been admitted to a hospital for a serious emergency heart surgery.
Weinstein was sent to prison for sixteen years in 2023, as a result of his demeanor with women after multiple women accused him of sexual assault and misconduct. Here’s all about his recent health scare.
Harvey Weinstein Undergoes Heart Surgery
Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers informed BBC News on Tuesday that he has been admitted for an emergency heart surgery at a hospital in New York. Weinstein was transferred from the Rikers Island jail to Bellevue Hospital on Sunday night, according to his lawyers. Further information on his health is awaited for now.
According to his lawyers, Weinstein has been dealing with several medical issues as well as chest problems. Weinstein has battled severe health issues in the past and has recently required several hospital admissions.
He underwent treatment for both double pneumonia and Covid-19 in July. Before that he was hospitalized in 2020 due to chest pains. According to CBS, he was also sent to Bellevue Hospital that year in order to have a blocked artery opened.

His lawyers have stated to ABC News, “Mr. Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital last night due to several medical conditions. We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today however cannot comment any further than that.”
They added, “As we have extensively stated before, Mr. Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment. We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly in taking him to Bellevue Hospital.”
Why Is Harvey Weinstein Controversial?
Harvey Weinstein has been accused by 85 women of inappropriate and criminal behavior, which includes rape, threatening sexual advances, and requests for massages. The claims have been refuted by Weinstein. “Any allegations of non-consensual sex are unequivocally denied by Mr. Weinstein,” Weinstein spokeswoman Holly Baird told USA TODAY in a statement when the accusations were made.

Prosecutors revealed last week that they have started the process of perhaps charging him with three more sex crimes. They claimed they have begun providing a grand jury with material related to up to three uncharged claims of sexual assault against Weinstein: two from the mid-2000s and one from 2016.
Weinstein denied claims of having sexually molested or raped anyone. He is still being held in New York while awaiting a retrial in Manhattan, which is set to start on November 12. On September 12, he is expected back in court for a pretrial hearing.
Weinstein is scheduled to begin serving a 16-year term in California following the retrial for a different rape case in Los Angeles, according to the authorities.
