Billionaire Elon Musk is yet again making headlines for another controversy. Though humor is one of Musk’s popular fortes, the businessman has quite a reputation for taking jokes directed at him more seriously than he needs to.
Musk is now seemingly offended at some remarks made against him during John Oliver’s recent episode of ‘Last Week Tonight’. The comedian had a 30-minute-long section where he labeled Musk as “erratic,” “self-serving,” and “increasingly racist.” And even though it is a joke that Musk is laughing off, he seems to have been hurt deep inside.

“Humor Is Illegal”: Elon Musk Responds To John Oliver
Though the X owner did not put his separate post to bring the comedian down, he did that in response to a question he was asked on his social media platform. A user had posted Oliver’s segment on X, posing a mocking, rhetorical question for Elon Musk.
“Oh no, how will Elon ever recover?” the caption of the post said. Musk promptly replied with crying-laughing emojis. “Oliver was great several years ago, but stopped being funny when he sold his soul to wokeness where humor is basically illegal,” the billionaire said.
On his show, Oliver took a thorough dig at Musk as he delved into his career controversies. He kicked off his segment by comparing Musk to movie villains like Lex Luthor and characters in ‘James Bond’ and ‘Titanic’. “Truly, the man has range,” Oliver jokingly said.
The comedian also addressed Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. “It has been one fiasco after another with the most recent coming when he tweeted his agreement with this antisemitic post,” he said.

He further mocked how Musk responded when advertisers pulled out of his social media platform due to the backlash over the antisemitism controversy. Oliver said it was more like a “you’re not breaking up with me, I’m breaking up with you card” while wearing a jacket from “Ralph Lauren’s midlife crisis collection“.
Oliver also brought up Musk’s past business decisions that did not end well. He mocked him for the “bait-and-switch” tactic with Tesla prices, as well as Tesla’s Cybertruck. “Who on earth actually wants to spend up to $100,000 to drive every child’s first attempt at drawing a car?” he said.
Pointing at Musk’s role in SpaceX, Oliver said having someone “as erratic as Elon in charge of half the world’s satellites” is not such a good thing.
A recent profile of Musk by author Ben Mezrich suggests that the world’s richest man “truly cares about his reputation“. The writer has cited an incident where Musk was visibly affected after being booed at a Dave Chapelle show in San Francisco last December.
