Why Was Milly Alcock In Constant Fear Whilst Shooting ‘House Of the Dragon’?
Alcock was literally the star of ‘HOD‘ season 1. She played the young Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, whose descendent, the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, was played by Emilia Clarke on ‘GOT.’ Adorning the same icy-blonde hair as the latter on-screen, Alcock’s portrayal of Rhaenyra was as a poised young queen whose teen years were spent on unwanted marriage proposals and navigating relationships with power-hungry men.
Once the series was aired, Alcock’s character received two extreme reactions from the fans of ‘GOT‘. She commented that the mixed reactions frankly, “fuckin’ sucks.” Alcock before landing on ‘HOD‘ was doing only Australian works and the budgets are immensely different from American TV.
She said, “I didn’t fully understand how big of a scale something like that could be until I stepped on set, and I was mortified. You quickly adapt and it all becomes quite normal. But the first two, three months I just thought I was going to get fired constantly. It was incredibly intimidating.”

How Does Alcock Look At Herself After Fame?
Milly in an interview noted that engaging in the comments about her work with the public made her “incredibly anxious”. She added that she was trying not to engage with it because it did not benefit her.
“It’s an incredibly difficult space to navigate. There’s very few people who’ve had an experience like how I’ve had, and finding them is really difficult,” Alcock said. She also noted that the sudden rise in fame felt strange to her.
“All of my friends are very normal and go to uni and just do very basic things, and my family’s not in the arts whatsoever, so it’s strange. It feels like someone’s opened Pandora’s box and you’re kind of just looking through the looking glass. It’s a bit Alice in Wonderland-y. It’s fucking weird.”
What Is Next For The Actress?
When the interviewer asked what other projects she has signed up for, Alcock gave the best candid answer ever. She said, “I hope I get employed again. I do. I’ve got nothing going on at the moment. I’m in the first phase of panic. It’s like the pre-phase of panic. Of “I’m never going to work, it’s never going to happen again,” as all freelancers know that feeling. I don’t even know what I’m doing tomorrow. I really don’t. So hopefully something fun and exciting comes along, but I just really want to do something completely different to House of the Dragon.”
The young Rhaenyra Targaryen noted that she does not want to get into another big franchise or a big series. She made it clear that she wanted to do something very intimate and personal for her. She also praised Paul Mescal who starred in ‘Normal People’. “I want to do a move that he made. I want a long career. I want to be clever about it,” Alcock explained.
After gaining fame for his role in ‘Normal People’, Mescal strategically transitioned to work in Indie Films. His upcoming projects include ‘Aftersun’, ‘The Strangers’, and an Irish drama ‘God’s Creatures’. Due to the time jump in each episode of HOD, Alcock’s character will be taken over by Emma D’arcy in the second half of the season.
