Howard University Takes Back Highest Honor From Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Over Assault Charges

It is sad to see the celebrities we look up to engage in shameful acts of assault. The controversy surrounding rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been ongoing for quite some time now. But now Howard University has spoken up about it. Why is Howard University getting involved? Because the rapper is the recipient of their highest honor.

But not anymore it seems. The University released a statement that said that given his assault charges and the footage, the University is cutting all ties with the rapper. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been a successful musician even securing three Grammy Awards.

The Washington DC University recently released a statement cutting all ties with the 54-year-old rapper. Combs was the recipient of an honorary degree from the college. However, the university’s Board of Trustees released a statement saying, “Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.”

The board had voted unanimously about cutting ties with the rapper. “This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University,” it said.

The university is taking this allegation pretty seriously. Not only have they taken back the honor and disbanded a scholarship program in his name, they have also cut all kinds of financial ties. The board of directors has also decided to return Combs’ contribution.

The university administration is to return a $1 million contribution from Combs and also dissolve a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation. The assault charges were brought on by his ex-girlfriend Cassie. And after a video surfaced showing Combs assaulting her in a hotel corridor the rapper asked for forgiveness online. But it seems that Howard University is adamant about cutting all ties with him.
