Golden Globes 2024 wrapped up on Sunday with comedian Jo Koy as the host. The irreverent comedian wasted no time as he opened the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards with a bold and witty monologue.
Koy took unapologetic jabs at many A-listers, as he brought his spirit of comedy to the stage. He kicked off the night by mentioning stars like Ali Wong and her hit ‘Beef’, along with Kevin Costner, and the legendary Meryl Streep. Though his demeaning jokes were a part of the hosting job, some celebrities may have taken them to heart.

Jo Koy Takes An Inappropriate Dig At Robert De Niro
One particular jibe that Koy took at Robert De Niro was slightly below the belt – or so the critics believe. Though he clarified how much he admires the veteran ‘Killers of the Flower Moon‘ actor, Koy questioned how De Niro got his wife pregnant at this age.
“How’d you get her pregnant at 80?” Koy asked, referencing De Niro’s newborn daughter born in April. “CGI?” he asked, adding more flavor to his supposed humor. As he still appeared to wonder if the actor had noticed his comment, he asked “Is he looking? Is he looking?”
Not one to shy away from risky commentary, Koy then turned to Barry Keoghan as he made fun of a specific scene in Emerald Fennell’s ‘Saltburn’. “Where’s your pen** seated? Down front?” he quipped, referring to the memorable nude scene in the movie. “That was the real star of the show,” he added.

Jo Koy Didn’t Spare ‘Barbie’ And ‘Oppenheimer’
Koy also didn’t spare other Hollywood highlights. Criticising ‘Barbie’, he asserted that something was “missing” in it compared to what was “dancing” in ‘Saltburn‘. Bradley Cooper also faced a jest from Koy for his prosthetic nose in ‘Maestro’.
He also took on the successes of 2023, including ‘Oppenheimer’, which according to him “needed another hour“, adding that his 2024 resolution is to finish watching the Christopher Nolan film.
“Oppenheimer answered my question that had been on my mind for years – yes, scientists do get laid. As long as they look like Cillian Murphy,” he joked.
In the pre-show, Koy said he is excited about showcasing his skills, and vowed to bring his flavor and style to the celebration of Hollywood after months of strikes. The comedian described the opportunity to host the Golden Globes as an “extra special” moment. “This is that moment where I get to make my Filipino family proud,” Koy said.
