The actress opened up about her experience in Hollywood as a young actress, and the exploitative nature of the industry which, she recalls, she felt having taken advantage of.

Ringwald, who has been an icon of 1980s teen films entered the industry when she was just three, talked about how she wouldn’t want her daughter to follow her footsteps and join the industry because of how pervasive it is.

“I was taken advantage of,” Ringwald said on WTF‘ podcast. “You can’t be a young actress in Hollywood and not have predators around.” The actress added that she was “definitely in questionable situations” as a young actor, but she relied on her “incredible survival instinct and a pretty big superego” to “figure out a way to protect myself” from predators in the industry.

She also added that she didn’t much of a social life in the industry as she said, “I never really felt like I was part of a community when I was in Hollywood, just because I was so young, really. I wasn’t into going out to clubs. I feel like I’m more social now than I was then. I was just too young.”
