“I’m A Woman And I’m Super Complex”: Lady Gaga Delves Into The Nuances Of Her Iconic Persona

Lady Gaga has been busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Joker: Folie À Deux’, and the singer also marked her presence at the Venice International Film Festival for its premiere. Gaga’s role as Harley Quinn has created a sensational buzz over the singer-actor’s performance and persona.

The film received a standing ovation at the festival. Critics feel Gaga did complete justice to the character of the dark paramour of Arthur Fleck, Harley Quinn. The ‘Poker Face’ singer was accompanied by Michael Polansky her fiance, sporting a bold Dior fit. Gaga’s wardrobe has often been noted as over the mark or unnatural. However, the ‘House Of Gucci’ actress recently opened up about her choice of painting over her natural personality. Gaga dived deep into several aspects of a celebrity’s life and how their amalgamation is her absolute self.

Lady Gaga has always made headlines with her unique looks and songs. Talking with Jonathan Van Meter for Vogue, the ‘A Star Is Born’ actress revealed that she has always been fascinated with the artifice. “I was really, truly fascinated with artifice as an artistic tool,” she said during the interview.

“There was a time in my career when I…. Look,” she continued, “where I spoke in an accent in interviews or told lies, but I was performing. Now, it’s a much more palatable mixture of authenticity and imagination.”

She continued, “I feel like the world, to a fault, operates in these binaries: You’re either real or you’re fake; you’re authentic or you’re shallow. But for me, I played a lot with artifice.”

Gaga’s statements seemed almost poetic as she webbed the image of her life as a combination of true and public face. “This is me. This. Is. Me. It’s too…complicated to split yourself in two and have to turn it off and on. It’s so much more empowering to be like, I’m a woman and I’m super complex,” she said.

Lady Gaga is seldom called by her real name, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Moreover, her stage name has created a life of its own. When asked by Meter whether Lady Gaga is a person, the singer answered, “That’s a big question. You know it’s not a persona. It’s not. I am all of these things.”

She continued, “The person that I am when I’m onstage in front of 85,000 people? That is also me.” Gaga, mentioning her fiance said, “That’s like one of the freedoms of my relationship with Michael. It feels really nice to have someone value you whether there’s 85,000 people watching or…the dogs. To see the whole you. And Lady Gaga is the whole me.”

Needless to say, her upcoming appearance in the iconic franchise is looked forward to by many of her fans and that of the franchise’s.
