Comedian and podcast host Marc Maron has a new comedy special out. The HBO titled ‘From Bleak To Dark‘ finds the acerbic comic coming to terms with his partner’s death and his father’s diagnosis of dementia.
Marc Maron sat down with Anthony Mason of the ‘CBS Mornings‘ show in the Comedy Store in Los Angeles for an interview to promote his HBO comedy special. The comedian took the host through his life’s turbulent journey. Whether it was the stand-up or his podcast ‘WTF With Marc Maron,’ comedy has helped ease his pain.

Marc Maron Works His Grief With Comedy

Marc Maron and Anthony visited The Comedy Store in Log Angeles. This place was the starting point for the comedian and podcaster’s humble beginnings as a stand-up comic. Before making it big, Marc Maron worked as a doorman at The Comedy Store.
After being dissatisfied with his comedy career, Marc Maron had what he called his “Hail Mary” moment when he decided to pursue a side career in podcasting. Soon, a rave review from The New Yorker put him on the map.
Talking to Anthony Mason, he revealed the double-edged nature of comedy. Marc Maron said while it’s therapeutic, it also has an “edge of cruelty” to it. On the day of his partner Lynn Shelton’s passing, Maron shared his grief via his podcast, hoping it would “help people to go on in that state.”
