It has become a fatal world for creative liberty. Journalists, writers, and free thinkers are constantly under attack. The prolific writer Salman Rushdie was stabbed brutally in Chautauqua, New York. They took him to Pennsylvania for medical assistance due to gruesome injuries. His spokesperson expressed concern over his health. But, the ‘Midnight’s Children’ writer has recovered properly.
The Booker Prize winner has come out with a new book titled ‘Victor City’. The book is about a woman empress of Bisnaga which translates to Victor City. The book promotion has been in full swing post-recovery from the attack where he lost his eye-sight in one eye and the ability to write from one hand. Though the writer has shown resilience, unfortunately, he finds it difficult to pen the words on paper.

Salman Rushdie Finds It Very Difficult To Write Post The Attack
Salman Rushdie has been in exile for a long time due to his daring critique of obsolete religiosity in his 1988 book ‘Satanic Verses’. A certain character ‘Manhound’ which refers to a satanic figure hurt the sentiments of the Islam followers.
So, Ayatollah Khomeini released a fatwa to award anyone with $3 million to kill him. In August 2022, Hadi Matar, a boy from New Jersey dared to be on stage where Rushdie was speaking and stabbed him brutally.
Recently, The New Yorker released the first interview of the writer since the attack. In the interview, he confessed that he is still unable to recover from whatever happened in New York and how it has affected his writing.
Salman said, “I’ve found it very, very difficult to write. I sit down to write, and nothing happens. I write, but it’s a combination of blankness and junk, stuff that I write and that I delete the next day. I’m not out of that forest yet, really”.

The Author Suffered Major Injuries
After the attack happened, his spokesperson updated the writer’s condition. The police reported that there were “repeated beating and first strokes on chest and neck”. His spokesperson and agent Andrew Wylie said that he has endured “three serious wounds in his neck and 15 more wounds to chest and torso” leaving him ‘incapacitated’.
Salman Rushdie, in The New Yorker interview, clarified that all the major injuries are healed except the inaction of his hands and fingers. He said, “As you can see, the big injuries are healed, essentially. I have feeling in my thumb and index finger and in the bottom half of the palm. I’m doing a lot of hand therapy, and I’m told that I’m doing very well. I’ve been better. But, considering what happened, I’m not so bad”.
