Inside Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis’ $17 Million Farmhouse

In Hollywood, celebrity houses often look like palaces. Think marble floors, endless hallways, and the kind of grandeur that feels more like a hotel than a home. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis decided to skip all that.

Their Los Angeles retreat, playfully named KuKu Farms, is a six-acre property with a main house, an entertainment barn, and a barbecue pavilion.

The idea began the way any modern couple does it, with Pinterest. Kutcher and Kunis each created boards filled with inspiration, expecting their styles to be completely different. To their surprise, nearly every image matched, and most of those photos featured the work of Howard Backen, an architect famous for reinventing the farmhouse style, combining rustic charms with modern function, which appealed to both Ashton and Mila. So, bringing him on board felt like the obvious next step.

With Backen leading the design, the couple planned three structures: the family house, an entertainment barn, and an outdoor pavilion. The main house looked like a barn that’s been converted into a home using reclaimed wood, board-formed concrete, and metallic details. Step inside, though, and you’ll get all things modern. Huge glass walls frame the hills, pulling in natural light. The open space makes it easy for kids to run through or for friends to gather without bumping into barriers.

Kutcher and Kunis didn’t shy away from diving into the details, from beam sizes to framing, and even soil health. Kutcher compared the process to good software: fewer clicks, fewer obstacles. They wanted a house that functioned as smoothly as it looked. The entertainment barn gave them a space to let loose. Instead of going for a stuffy guesthouse, they gave it a spin as a casual hangout spot with a giant chandelier swinging from wooden beams. The pavilion outside was the finishing touch, designed for barbecues and long summer nights.

Kutcher and Kunis also wanted the house to reflect every bit of their character. That meant including pieces from their past, even the unconventional ones. Kutcher once bought two oversized silver throne chairs in India, and instead of hiding them in storage, the couple placed them in the bathroom. Omg!

For interiors, they brought in Vicky Charles, former design head of Soho House. But by then, the couple’s whole outlook towards designing the house had changed as Kunis was pregnant with their first child. The home needed to be durable, functional, and welcoming for a growing family, not just for magazine spreads.

Ashton And Mila Prioritized Sustainability

For Kutcher and Kunis, building KuKu Farms was also about responsibility. The home runs entirely on solar power, with panels hidden above the porch roof. In fact, the system produces more electricity than the family uses, though outdated local codes prevent them from sharing the surplus. They also focused on water and soil. The couple dug their own well and paid attention to regenerative farming on the property.

During lockdown, they even planted a cornfield, leaning into the farmhouse lifestyle in their own way. While the architecture is impressive, what makes KuKu Farms memorable is how much it reflects Ashton and Mila’s everyday life; no fragile pieces you’re afraid to touch. Kids can sprawl on the living room floor without worrying about ruining the design. Friends can gather in the barn under a chandelier that makes everyone smile. The barbecue pavilion makes outdoor cooking part of regular life, not just a special occasion.

Kutcher once explained, “If the space around you is chaotic, your mind will be too. When we’re here, the world just makes sense.” For him, the order and calm of the house go beyond design. They shape how the family feels inside it, and we can’t agree more.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis could have followed the Hollywood playbook and built a mansion designed to impress. Instead, they created a modern farmhouse that runs on solar power, blends rustic materials with open spaces, and puts family at the heart of it.
