Troy’ was released 20 years ago and turned out to be a popular film with a gripping storyline and a star-studded cast. Orlando Bloom, who was also a crucial part of the film, however, believes he struggled a lot being a part of it.

Speaking about his experience of playing the character Paris in the movie, Bloom admitted that he struggled with his character’s cowardly nature and found it difficult to connect with the role on a personal level.

So many people love that movie, but for me playing that character was just like [slits throat],” Bloom said, making the gesture with his hand. “Am I allowed to say all of these things? I didn’t want to do the movie. I didn’t want to play this character,” he added.

The actor asserted that playing Paris went against his instincts as an actor, particularly because he often felt that the character’s actions conflicted with his personal values and beliefs.

It was completely against everything I felt in my being. At one point, [the script] says, ‘Paris crawls along the floor having been beaten by somebody and holds his brother’s leg.’ I was like, ‘I’m not going to be able to do this,’” he recalled.

He recalled succumbing to pressure from his agent to take on the role anyway. “I completely fell for that line of an agent. I think that’s why I blanked that from my mind,” he added.

Interestingly, Orlando Bloom isn’t the only actor who despises his role in ‘Troy’. Brad Pitt, who played Achilles in the movie, also expressed disappointment with the final result. Speaking to the New York Times in 2019, Pitt cited creative differences and studio pressure as reasons for his disappointment in the film.

I had to do Troy because — I guess I can say all this now — I pulled out of another movie and then had to do something for the studio. So I was put in Troy,” Pitt said at the time.

It wasn’t painful, but I realized that the way that movie was being told was not how I wanted it to be. I made my own mistakes in it,” he added, stating how working on big-budget studio projects comes with its own challenges as an actor.
