The James Bond legacy in Hollywood is to die given the prestige as well as the fanbase the franchise still boasts. While there are several young contenders who may take on as the next James Bond in the expansive detective universe, some names are exceptionally recommended — both by fans and their co-stars.
In a rather exciting suggestion, actress Eiza González has suggested her co-star Henry Cavill as the perfect fit to play James Bond. The duo has starred together in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming comedic action flick, ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘. As they are busy promoting their film, this interesting suggestion from González has sparked excitement.
Eiza González Says “It’s Hard Not To Look At Henry Cavill And Think Of James Bond”
Eiza González and Henry Cavill are set for the release fo their upcoming film ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’. The film is based on real historical events around the creation of the Special Operations Executive during World War II. While González plays the role of intelligence agent Marjorie Stewart, Cavill takes on the role of team leader Gus March-Phillipps.
Interestingly, Gus March-Phillipps is rumored to be the real-life inspiration for James Bond — and that is where Eiza González’s suggestion stems from. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, González expressed her support for Cavill to don the iconic 007 tuxedo and get on screens as the next James Bond.
“It’s hard not to look at Henry Cavill and think of James Bond, to be really honest,” she said, adding, “Obviously, I’m part of the group of people that are rooting for him to get it hopefully if that was a possibility.”
While recent rumors suggested that Aaron Taylor-Johnson might have been offered the role of James Bond, González’s suggestion has also fueled speculation about the next actor to take on the iconic spy role being Henry Cavill.
Taylor-Johnson refused to comment on the matter in a Rolling Stone U.K. feature. Moreover, Cavill was also up against Craig for the role of Bond in 2006’s ‘Casino Royale’ before the production began.
Reflecting on her experience filming with Henry Cavill in ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, Eiza González joked that imagining themselves in a Bond film wasn’t too challenging. Especially with Ian Fleming, played by Freddie Fox in the film, Eiza said she was quite excited to see Fleming’s influence on the Bond franchise come to life on set.
“There’s nothing cooler when you’re watching a movie and worlds collide, like you see Ian Fleming there and seeing him part of a mission, how that really transformed into what we know now as James Bond, and what came out of it, and him becoming a writer. I love that about the film,” shesaid during the interview.

Eiza González Lauds The Portrayal Of Strong Female Characters In ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’
Though there was ample potential for romantic subplots in the film, Eiza González said the focus was on each character’s skills and job in ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’. “We see these movies, and romance is a big part of these films, and don’t get me wrong, I love romance, and there’s nothing more magical than seeing that James Bond moment where it’s so sexy,” she said.
“But I really liked that each character was just solely focused on their skills and their job and their wits, and nothing was distracted from the mission,” the actress added.
She praised the film for showcasing female characters in a heavily masculine cast without solely relying on romantic tropes, as she noted her character Marjorie’s independence and strength.
“Rarely do we get to see female characters involved in such a heavily masculine cast that has no emotional relationship on screen with them. I thought that was fascinating and really, really cool and unique,” she said.
“I find her quite like James Bond herself,” she said of her character. “She is smart, quick, witty, interesting, dynamic. She’s just the coolest, so I think that a lot of the inspiration for those roles probably came from both male and female, not just men,” she added.
For González, bringing Marjorie’s story to life was a career highlight, comparing her character to James Bond in terms of wit and dynamism. She suggested that inspiration for such roles could come from both male and female figures.
‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare‘ is set to hit theaters on April 19, promising an action-packed ride with a hint of historical intrigue.
