In case you missed it: Why did Johnny Depp have to resign from the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise?
Speaking more about the project with Variety about his early 2017 meetings with Rowling to discuss the character of Dumbledore, Law said the author described Dumbledore’s whole arc throughout the ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ movies. He said Rowling told him that Dumbledore believed himself to be a “monster” for being in love with Grindelwald, which ultimately proved disastrous and led to his sister’s death.
“I think he always felt guilty that he had been misled because he was in love,” Law explained. While Law seems ready to trade in the world of wands and wizards for good, he does cherish the memory of playing the character to which he’s so dearly attached, saying, “I liked his heart, and I liked playing him because of that. I always enjoyed stepping in his shoes.”
