Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s ex-wife may have parted ways with him, but the politics in her has seemingly been retained. Sophie Grégoire, who was referred to as a “dear friend” by the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, gave a rather reserved response when asked about Markle during an interview with The Sunday Times.
While Meghan had spoken admirably about Sophie during an episode of her ‘Archetypes’ podcast, Sophie’s reaction was notably hesitant when she was asked about Meghan. During the podcast, Sophie asserted that she knows the Duchess of Sussex but added that the two have not spent much time together.
After responding with a simple “I know her“, Sophie diverted the topic to Princess Kate Middleton and her recent cancer diagnosis. “My heart just sunk when I saw what was happening,” Sophir said of Kate Middleton’s cancer treatment.

Meghan Markle Claimed Sophie Grégoire Is A “Dear Friend”
Sophie Grégoire’s response struck many as a bit odd given Meghan Markle’s notable mention of her during her podcast episode from November 2022. In the episode, Markle opened up about some good time she spent with Sophie and her children by the pool.
Markle also spoke about the friendship she has developed with Sophie, asserting that the two have grown quite close. “Sophie has become a dear friend and someone who I think is so emblematic of strength that comes from embracing your humanity even in the face of all these family and home and public pressures,” Markle said in the 2022 episode.
Meghan further added that Sophie is the “type of person who cares really deeply about her friends”. The Duchess also said that Sophie sent her little meditation recommendations during her pregnancy through voice notes. “And I’ve gone to her over the years for advice. She knows what it feels like to be a mom and partner, and specifically, a mom and a partner in the public eye,” the Duchess had said.
With such contrasting statements from Meghan Markle and Sophie Grégoire, many are speculating the motif behind it. Which one of them is lying? Are the lies politically motivated? Or is it because of some unknown rift between Meghan and Sophie? All these questions remain unanswered, while the anticipation over the matter grows.
