Kate Winslet Talks About Behind-The-Scenes Shenanigans With Leonardo DiCaprio
Kate Winslet went down memory lane during her recent appearance on ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show‘, as she narrated a hilarious behind-the-scenes tale from one of the movie’s most famous scenes — the ship tilting upside down before sinking.
Winslet recalled the scene where the ship was angled upwards. “I remember everything. We had a section of the boat that was on a hydraulic arm. It would go up and down depending on what angle at which the ship was sinking at that point in the story. That particular angle that you saw in the photograph was, it was really scary because, like a fairground ride, it didn’t stop there, it kept going up.”
She added, “There was one night when the entire hydraulic, it just broke. And we got stuck up there. That was quite funny actually. We got stuck up there just like all the night. We had 7 months of shoot, 4 months of which were shot in the night because the ship sank in the night. So, there’s Leo and I just stuck on the top of the bough of the ship.”
Revealing how te duo decided to kill the time in a fun way, she said, “Actually, we used to sing. We’d take turns to sing each other, you know, cheesy love songs.”
Leonardo DiCaprio And Kate Winslet’s Iconic Chemistry In ‘Titanic’
Based on the horrific 1912 sinking of the RMS Titanic, ‘Titanic‘ went on to become one of the most successful films of the late 1990s.
It was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, winning 11 of them, including Best Picture and Best Director. It ruled the box office and was the highest-grossing movie until 2010 when Cameron’s follow-up picture, ‘Avatar‘, surpassed it.
Perhaps the best part of the film — apart from James Cameron’s brilliant direction and Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ — was Kate and Leo’s chemistry.
