Taylor Swift‘s presence at the NFL games to support her beau Travis Kelce has been making headlines ever since the couple started dating earlier this summer. The pop sensation has religiously attended most of Kelce’s games, some of which were also graced by her family as well as Travis’s.
Taylor’s presence at the NFL games has been advantageous to the game authorities, and if statistics are to be believed, to Kelce’s game as well. However, some have blamed Taylor for Kelce’s failures on the field. ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith has now shut the naysayers off, as he spoke up in the singing sensation’s defense.
“She’s Going To Support Her Dude”: Stephen Smith Asks Naysayers To Shut It
Although there is statistical proof that Taylor Swift’s presence has made Travis Kelce perform better, some fans do not agree. Even Kelce’s own teammates from the Kansas City Chiefs have praised Taylor for her support, but some naysayers are still slamming the pop sensation.
In what comes as an authoritative voice amid all the frenzy around Taylor Swift’s impact on the Kansas City Chiefs games, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith has stepped up to the defense line. “I have to take a moment to come to the defense of Taylor Swift,” Smith declared on the January 10 episode of ‘First Take’.
“Everybody is sitting up there and acting like she’s some kind of impediment, and, excuse me, she did her job! That Eras Tour? Off the chain.”
The ESPN star is known for his fiery commentary. Displaying his frank approach yet again, Smith backed the 12-time Grammy winner’s right to support her boyfriend. “She’s going to support her dude. To show up at a football game and the cameras are on her — that ain’t her fault!” he said.

Smith Says Taylor Would Have A Positive Impact On Travis Kelce’s Performance
Smith was also one of the many to attend one of Swift’s “phenomenal” Eras Tour concerts over the summer. Noting that the star did not start going to the NFL games before her 2023 tour ended, the ESPN star said, “And excuse me, by the way, she went to the games after the concerts.”
“It’s not like she used the games to bump up the concerts. Oh no! Those kids were going to her concerts whether the NFL was promoting her or not!” he said trashing some social media claims. “Taylor Swift is that girl. Let’s show some respect,” he said. “She probably is gonna have a positive on Travis Kelce’s performance, okay?”
Though Swift is being slammed online, her track record with the Chiefs has been positive, with the Missouri-based team winning six out of nine games she attended. The pop sensation was also widely lauded for her presence initially. However, as the season progressed, NFL fans changed their tune.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” Swift told Time in response to the backlash. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads,” she added.
In the end, Swift remains undeterred in her support for Kelce, while Smith boldly declares, “Pump the brakes” to those quick to criticize the pop star’s sideline appearances.
