Matt Damon feels grateful that he does not have to deal with media scrutiny as much as his friend and frequent collaborator, Ben Affleck. The ‘Bourne‘ saga actor revealed on the Radio Times Podcast, that he and Affleck have had “parallel” careers yet he has not circulated in press headlines like the ‘Gone Girl‘ actor. Damon and Affleck rocketed into fame together with their Oscar-winning film ‘Good Will Hunting’.
Matt, looking back 25 years, stated that Ben has always been a fodder for entertainment news. The actors have frequently narrated their long friendship and support for each other in acting, and both have had fairly similar trajectories in the Hollywood biz. Yet Ben has trended in the press more than ‘The Martian’ actor. And Damon feels fortunate for being excused from the camera lens.
“I’ve Been Really Lucky”: Matt Damon Reflects On Ben Affleck’s Press Presence
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck sat with Radio Times Podcast for its latest episode. Unlike Casey’s brother, Damon revealed that he feels thankful for less media involvement in his life.
“I can’t imagine living under that kind of scrutiny. And it’s been like that for 25 years and we’ve had parallel careers in a lot of ways and so I’m fortunate to have been kind of excused from that part,” Damon said on the podcast.
Matt also acknowledged his “boring” marriage to Luciana Barroso as the reason to have an intrusive media presence. Meanwhile, Ben’s relationship with Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Garner has been broadcast in the media for years.
“Right, like a guy who’s married, it’s so boring. What would sell those things were scandal and sex and all that stuff … and as long as you didn’t do any of that stuff it wasn’t really worth their time to wait to take your picture, and so I ended up kind of getting left alone,” he explained.
Matt Damon Convinced Ben Affleck To Do ‘The Last Duel’
Matt Damon also revealed in the podcast episode that he helped Ben to get back in the game after a horrible ‘Justice League’ experience. Earlier, Affleck had told Entertainment Weekly, “Not blaming anybody, there’s a lot of things that happened. But really what it was is that I wasn’t happy.” Later the ‘Good Will Hunting’ duo collaborated again for the action-thriller in 2021.
Affleck revealed that he chose to do ‘The Last Duel‘ on Damon’s advice. “Then we went and did ‘Last Duel’ and I had fun every day on this movie. I wasn’t the star, I wasn’t likable. I was a villain……yet it was a wonderful experience. And it was all just stuff that came along that I wasn’t chasing,” Affleck told Entertainment Weekly.
