At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, the night kicked off with Lainey Wilson performing a lively version of “The Best of Both Worlds,” that iconic anthem from ‘Hannah Montana.’ The crowd was buzzing, but it was Miley who stole the show. Taking the stage with tears in her eyes, she delivered a heartfelt and empowering speech that had everyone on their feet.

“I’m gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one that tells you what you’re not supposed to know,” Miley began, in a way that only she could. “Legends get scared, too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day. It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway. There is no such thing as failure when you try.”

She’s always been one to keep it real, and her acceptance speech was no different. Miley didn’t just stop there. She added a touch of humor, reflecting on her early Disney days, saying, “In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild the company. That’s why they hired Bob Iger, and me,” she joked, getting a big laugh from the audience as per Variety.

The highlight, though, was when she paid tribute to the character that started it all— ‘Hannah Montana‘. “I stand here still proud to have been ‘Hannah Montana,’” she said, dedicating her award to the fans who’ve been with her since day one. “This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is the life.‘”

Miley’s Disney career began as a child, playing Miley Stewart, the average girl with an astonishing secret, on ‘Hannah Montana.’ And, while she’s gone a long way since then, she’s never forgotten her Disney beginnings.

Miley’s relationship with Disney is stronger than ever, from portraying Penny in Disney’s ‘Bolt‘ to her Disney+ special ‘Endless Summer Vacation‘ (Backyard Sessions). As she said, “It’s legendary to be afraid and do it anyway.”
