Prosthetic aids are always available to actors while filming either for a bald character or full frontal nudity. Yet many, in an artistic fervor, prefer to make the scene as authentic as possible. ‘Monsters’ actor Cooper Koch revealed that he opted out of using prosthetics for his nude scene in the show.
Koch, who plays Erik Menendez in the biographical crime series, ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story‘, let his fans in on some behind-the-scenes stories for the Netflix series. Here’s what the actor said of filming the shower scene.
“It’s Not Scary”: Cooper Koch Reflects On Filming Naked For ‘Monsters’
Cooper Koch appeared in an episode on ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen‘ on October 14, wherein he revealed that he did not use a prosthetic for filming the prison shower scene in the second season of ‘Monsters’. He said, “Also just to say mine was not a prosthetic.” Show host Cohen coyly stated, “Well that was going to be my next question.”
The host added, “Congratulations to you, Cooper. You’re very blessed, aren’t you.” In jest, Koch replied, “Well hung.” In honor of Koch’s nude scene, Cohen compiled a list of the top five full-frontal scenes in the history of Hollywood.
Reflecting more on filming the shower scene, Koch said, “It’s not scary, I would say it’s just more uncomfortable at first and it’s very cold, especially in the shower.” Needless to say, the scene was one of the many brutally raw scenes that made the show a hit, and drew heavy attention to the decades-old Menendez Brothers case.
Cooper Koch Met The Menendez Brothers Before Filming ‘Monsters’
The second season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series is based on the murder trial of the eponymous brothers. In another interview earlier, Cooper Koch revealed on Andy’s ‘Clubhouse of Horror’ segment that he met the infamous Menendez brothers before filming for ‘Monsters’.
Lyle and Erik Menendez were tried and convicted of murdering their parents José and Kitty Menendez in 1996. The brothers have been serving life imprisonment sentences since then, but were once a matter of heavy controversy and fame.

Koch said meeting the brother was “not super intimidating”. “I would say just like more nerve-wracking ‘cause I’ve known about them for so long and care so much about them,” the actor added. “It was just like nervous but then when I got there it was all great.”
The actor revealed his scary experiences on set as the series dug deeper into the dark and sordid past of the brother. He stated, “Episode five, that was probably the most (intense). That was the one.” This was the episode where his character Erik reveals to his lawyer Leslie that he was sexually molested by his father.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ is currently streaming on Netflix.
