Morgan Fairchild has revealed a behind-the-scenes moment from ‘Friends‘ that fans never got to see on screen. And, it’s a memory attached to the late Matthew Perry.
Before she played Chandler Bing’s famously glamorous mother, Perry greeted her in a way she never expected, and it immediately made their first interaction unforgettable.
Morgan Fairchild Had No Idea How Matthew Perry Knew Her Before ‘Friends’

Fairchild told Entertainment Weekly that she expected a normal first day on the set of ‘Friends‘. But Matthew Perry didn’t wait for formal introductions on her first day on set. The moment he saw her, he rushed over.
She remembered him “like a big gangly puppy dog,” excitedly hurrying toward her and saying she probably wouldn’t remember him, but he used to hang around the sets of ‘Flamingo Road‘ and ‘Falcon Crest‘ with her.
Perry’s behaviour left her confused because those productions were filmed decades earlier, and Perry would have been extremely young at the time. So, she couldn’t figure out why he would have been there at all. Moreover, he really tried to make her laugh and charmed her.
The Old Connection Made Their Bond Better

After some time, she asked the obvious question, who his father was. Perry replied that his dad was actor Joan Bennett Perry. Everything suddenly clicked. Fairchild recalled that his father had a recurring role as a sheriff on both shows, and she immediately realized she had actually seen Matthew as a little kid years earlier.

She laughed while remembering the moment, saying she thought, “My God, you were that little kid,” and joking to herself that she must now officially be old enough to play his mother. The revelation instantly made their casting feel strangely perfect.
That initial introduction became her very first ‘Friends‘ memory, and it made their on-screen relationship as Nora and Chandler Bing. For Fairchild, though, it became a sweet memory she’ll forever carry.
