“Now’s The Time”: Morena Baccarin Wishes To Play Copycat in ‘Deadpool 4’ After A Long Wait

Morena Baccarin, who plays Vanessa Carlysle in theDeadpool‘ franchise, has put forth an interesting wish that is likely to leave her fans delighted.  Speaking with ‘ComicBook‘ to talk up her new film ‘Elevation, Baccarin dryly joked that she had waited long enough to see if she could display some mutant moves.

Her wish? She hopes that her character in the Marvel universe is portrayed as the famous comic book character Copycat. Now that’s an interesting idea, isn’t it? Here’s all she has in mind.

Morena Baccarin Has Big Aspirations For Her ‘Deadpool’ Character

Morena Baccarin is all set to hit the screens with her next film ‘Elevation‘, but that is far from satisfying her aspirations. “I have only been waiting like five years,” she cracked. “I’m not getting any younger or skinnier, so now is the time,” the actress said during a recent interview.

Baccarin was a fan favorite as soon as she was brought on as Wade Wilson’s love interest in the initial ‘Deadpool‘ movie back in 2016. Her chemistry with Reynolds brought an emotional depth that the otherwise chaotic and violent comedy may have lacked.

She appeared once again in ‘Deadpool 2‘ in 2018, where her character is killed off very early into the film but finds her way back into this reality through Deadpool’s various time-travel shenanigans. This summer, Baccarin reprised the role once again in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘, where it’s revealed that Vanessa and Wade broke up, though they seemingly rekindled their romance by the film’s end.

Given the background, her aspirations for ‘Deadpool 4′ are anything but valid.

Morena Baccarin’s Character Has Long Been A Part Of The ‘Deadpool’ Lore

While Morena Baccarin’s character Vanessa has been integral to the ‘Deadpool‘ films, there’s a side of her comic fans are eager to see: her mutant identity as Copycat, a shapeshifting mercenary with Mystique-like abilities. Even in the comics, even Vanessa impersonates Domino in infiltrating the X-Force.

This part of Vanessa has been hot to discuss for years. It first gained traction when the director Tim Miller first wanted to introduce Copycat in ‘Deadpool 2‘, he even had to leave the project on creative differences.

Fans of Baccarin generally think that she could have a more important role in action after such a sideline in ‘Deadpool 2‘ and when she hardly appears in a few scenes in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘. Well, with that great talent, she will definitely take care of such a bigger, meatier role in the whole MCU. But if things go by what they usually do, then Baccarin has to wait a little bit longer for that moment.

Marvel Studios hasn’t announced ‘Deadpool 4‘ despite the immense success of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine‘. But given that there is a spate of other big films on the slate through 2027, ‘The Fantastic Four’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, the hope is there for an untitled Marvel release to be reserved for Wade and Vanessa’s next adventure. Hopefully, soon we shall see Baccarin get the action-packed upgrade.
