Robert Downey Jr.’s victory was not a small feat, especially considering the competition he faced at the 2024 Oscars. He beat several formidable nominees such as Sterling K. Brown, Robert De Niro, Ryan Gosling, and Mark Ruffalo,  as he won the award.

The actor delivered an exceptional acceptance speech filled with his signature sarcasm and heartfelt gratitude. “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy, in that order,” he said, before acknowledging his partner, Susan Downey, whom he affectionately referred to as his veterinarian-turned-wife.

He also expressed gratitude to director Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, and his esteemed co-stars. Downey Jr. also mentioned the profound impact of his ‘Oppenheimer‘ journey.

Here’s my little secret: I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it, Emma made sure she wrapped — surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time,” he humbly admitted. “Emily [Blunt], Cillian [Murphy], Matt [Damon] … it was fantastic and I stand here before you a better man because of it,” he said. In conclusion, Downey Jr. dedicated his win to his three children—Avri, Exton, and Indio.

After concluding his ‘Oppenheimer‘ journey with a resounding success, Downey Jr. is not slowing down. He is currently busy working for an upcoming role in HBO’s ‘The Sympathizer, based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s bestselling novel.
