Piers Morgan questioned Meghan Markle on social media for her visit to the memorial for Texas school shooting victims. The tragedy shook the world.
The TalkTV host asked if she had brought her “Netflix camera crew”. He questioned her motives behind the selfless act.
Piers Morgan Questions Meghan Markle For Her Texas Visit
Meghan Markle made a surprise visit to the memorial site for the Texas school shooting victims and paid her respects. She also offered flowers. The pictures went viral in no time.
Piers tweeted, “Is the Netflix camera crew with her?” alongside a Daily Mail report that mentioned Meghan’s appearance in Uvalde.
Meghan’s Fans Call Out Morgan
Markle’s fans didn’t seem to like this and responded to him. One tweet said Kate Middleton had been followed by cameras when she attended Clapham Common last year to pay respects to Sarah Everard.
“Morgan behave. At least she went to pay her respects. At a time like this show some respect for those deceased,” a comment read.
A social media user wrote, “I feel sorry for a camera crew that has to follow around such an irrelevant couple. There can’t be much job satisfaction in knowing no one cares what you’re filming and no one will care enough to watch it.”
Another person commented, “Can everyone remember Catherine’s impromptu appearance to lay flowers for Sarah Everard.”
Piers had said he would find it “unbelievably distasteful” if she had flown from California to pay tribute, that too just to be filmed by Netflix.
His comments came weeks after the news was disclosed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were working on an “at-home” style docuseries for Netflix.
Morgan said on his show: “Meghan Markle, for reasons I find completely baffling, has turned up at the scene of the mass shooting in America to put flowers down.”
“I don’t know what she’s doing there, other than it seems self-promoting. And if the Netflix cameras are following her to do something like this, I would find that unbelievably distasteful,” he added.
Conservative commentator Esther Krakue agreed with Piers. Though she said she’d “like to give her the benefit of the doubt” as the shooting is a “tragedy” that has moved everyone.
