In a powerful documentary, R. Kelly‘s daughter, Joann Kelly aka Buku Abi, has revealed that she was sexually abused by her father as a child. The revelation comes as a shock to many. Buku had previously remained silent about the alleged abuse.
However, she made the difficult decision to speak out about her experience in the documentary ‘R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey’. Moreover, she shared her story in hopes of raising awareness about child sexual abuse and providing support for other victims.

Buku Abi described the abuse as happening when she was 8 or 9 years old. She recalled waking up to her father touching her and feeling helpless and scared. “I just remember waking up to him touching me,” she recalled. “And I didn’t know what to do, so I just kind of laid there, and I pretended to be asleep,” she added.

“He was my everything. For a long time, I didn’t even want to believe that it happened. I didn’t know that even if he was a bad person that he would do something to me,” she said in the documentary. Despite her fear, Buku eventually found the courage to tell her mother about the abuse.
After reporting the abuse to her mother, Buku and her family stopped visiting R. Kelly. However, the experience left a lasting impact on Buku, who struggled with the trauma for years. She revealed that she felt like she had spoken out for nothing when the authorities were unable to prosecute R. Kelly due to the statute of limitations.
Additionally, R. Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, has denied the allegations. She stated that R. Kelly’s ex-wife made similar allegations years ago, which were investigated and found to be unfounded. Bonjean also criticized the filmmakers for not reaching out to R. Kelly or his team for comment.
