British actor Riz Ahmed has recently revealed a touching moment that shows a more personal side of fame. The 43-year-old, known for his roles in ‘Sound of Metal,’ ‘Rogue One,’ and ‘The Night Of,’ said that he gave away his Oscar right after winning it in 2022.
But who did he give it to? It turns out it was none other than his own mother, probably the safest person in the world, who now keeps it safe, even though he does not know exactly where it is.
Why Riz Ahmed Handed His Oscar to His Mother Immediately

During an exclusive interview with People Magazine, Ahmed looked back fondly on the night that changed his life. “I went and handed it straight to my mom. She gets first dibs on any of that stuff,” he said. “I actually haven’t seen it for a while, so I’m hoping she knows where it is, ’cause I don’t.”

He spoke about his mother’s careful way of keeping the Oscar with a mix of humour and affection. “She doesn’t like me rearranging her stuff,” Ahmed added. “It’s a very kind of elaborate scheme. She’s hidden it in a place where I don’t know, just that I don’t throw away any of the stuff. I might throw out a box that has it in it or something.”
Riz Ahmed’s Oscar-Winning Short Film

In 2022, Ahmed and filmmaker Aneil Karia won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film for their work on the short ‘The Long Goodbye.’ The film runs for 12 minutes and tells a powerful story about family, identity, and the growing tensions faced by South Asian communities in London.

Now, even four years later, Ahmed still seems grounded despite everything he has achieved. He previously made history as the first Muslim actor to be nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for ‘Sound of Metal.’
