Robert Downey Jr., the iconic actor behind the beloved Iron Man shared his opinion on Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur often compared to the fictional superhero. Musk has frequently been likened to Tony Stark due to his entrepreneurial spirit and outspoken personality.
However, RDJ believes that Musk could learn a thing or two from his character. While he recognizes Elon’s accomplishments he doesn’t agree with the billionaire’s behavior.
Robert Downey Jr. Critiques Elon Musk’s Behavior But Also Calls Him Valuable
While on a podcast with Kara Swisher, Downey Jr. commented on Musk’s “cosplaying” as Tony Stark. He acknowledged Musk’s accomplishments but expressed concern about his behavior. He believes that Musk could benefit from toning down his behavior.
Moreover, RDJ suggested that Musk’s outspoken style could be detrimental to his goals and reputation. “As an almost 60-year-old recovering white American male, I just wish that he would control his behavior a little more,” Downey Jr. said. “But that’s not on me.“
Downey Jr. and Musk have a unique connection. The two met briefly in 2008 when Musk appeared in a cameo role in ‘Iron Man 2’. While their interaction was limited, it likely left a lasting impression on both individuals.
Moreover, despite his concerns about Musk’s behavior, Downey Jr. acknowledged the entrepreneur’s significant contributions to technology. “But again, you know, you have to look at all that he’s done that demonstrates why he’s valuable,” he stated.
How Elon Musk Became A Pop Culture Icon?
In 2022, ‘Iron Man’ writer Mark Fergus reflected on how Elon Musk influenced the film’s interpretation of Tony Stark. Stark, originally introduced in the comics in 1962, evolved into a character that blended elements of Musk, Donald Trump, and Steve Jobs.
Fergus, while talking to the New York Magazine remarked that Musk embodied the “brilliance of Jobs” with “the showmanship of Trump.” Additionally, Musk’s public persona, with bold ventures like colonizing Mars, leading Tesla, and launching attention-grabbing products like the Boring Company’s flamethrowers, made him a pop culture icon for a while.
Moreover, besides ‘Iron Man 2′ his appearances in movies such as ‘Machete Kills’, ‘Transcendence’, and ‘Men in Black: International’ further solidified his celebrity status. However, since acquiring X and becoming a more vocal figure in political debates, Musk’s involvement in entertainment and pop culture has diminished. Now, he has openly endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
