Ryan Gosling has collaborated with some of the largest stars in Hollywood, yet even he acknowledges that it was an entirely new experience to share the screen with Harrison Ford.
Gosling recently sketched a portrait of a man who is not only iconic on screen, but equally unpredictable, intense, and likable off-screen. From playful on-set antics to eyebrow-raising toughness, Gosling’s stories reveal why Ford continues to command both admiration and disbelief decades into his career.
Ryan Gosling Says Harrison Ford Is “Built Different”

During the production of the movie ‘Blade Runner 2049’, Gosling remembered one incident that best illustrated the no-nonsense attitude of Ford. In one scene, Ford punched Gosling in the face so hard that ice was brought in to help the swelling.
However, rather than apologizing in a traditional manner, Ford took the ice and cooled his own hand and said, “I forgive you,” jokingly.

“He punched me one time in a scene and then when they brought me ice for my face, he took the ice away, he put his fist in it, and he said, ‘I forgive you,‘” he explained on the New Heights podcast. It was just the beginning of the moment.
When Gosling was presented with a couple of painkillers, Ford allegedly took the bottle and gulped a huge handful of them himself, as though they were a snack. “Housed like 15” Advil were Gosling’s exact words. So, he concluded it in a simple way: Ford does not work like the rest of us. There is hardness and humor that is almost mythical.
Gosling Exposes The Real Harrison Ford’s Personality

Another story that Gosling shared was almost too good to be true. However, it fits perfectly well with Ford’s reputation. When filming the movie ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ Ford seemed to become frustrated with his famous hat falling off on several occasions during the action scenes. His solution? Secure it in the most extreme way possible.

Instead of using wardrobe fixes, he nailed it to stay in place in a manner that made a permanent impression. He later on even verified the story years later, sweeping it off with a simple, pragmatic tone: Sometimes you just do what it takes to get the shot. “They were trying to tape it and he said, ‘Forget it. Give me a stapler.’ And he stapled it to his head.”
The most remarkable thing about all these anecdotes is not only the physical audacity but the uniformity of Ford’s personality. The same confidence, wit, and unpredictability that we have witnessed in his most popular roles appear to be direct by-products of who he is in real life. That is what makes working with him unforgettable for Gosling.
