Salma Hayek Was Typecast In Glamorous Roles
Salma Hayek has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry with her acting skills and beauty. However, she feels that directors have typecast her in most films.
In an interview with GQ Hype, the 56-year-old actress said that she wanted to do more comedy films but her being typecast in glamorous roles didn’t give much scope for comedy. “I was typecast for a long time. My entire life I wanted to do comedy and people wouldn’t give me comedies,” she said.
She further added, “They said, ‘You’re sexy, so you’re not allowed to have a sense of humour. Not only are you not allowed to be smart, but you were not allowed to be funny in the ’90s.”

Hayek Wasn’t Offered Good Roles Despite An Oscar Nomination
Hayek portrayed the role of Mexican self-portrait artist Freida Kahlo and became the first Mexican actress to earn a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Despite this massive achievement, things didn’t change for her.
“When I was nominated for an Oscar, the types of roles that people offered me did not change at all. I really struggled and I thought that was going to change, but no,” she recalls.
She said that things started changing after she met Adam Sandler who got her a role in the 2010 comedy film ‘Grown Ups.’ However, that happened when she was in her 40s. Despite the ups and downs, Hayek is happy that she is getting to explore different genres now.
