Jennifer Lawrence is the Oscar-winning actress known for her bold opinions and fierce advocacy, and she’s stepping into the political arena once again. This time, she’s throwing her support behind Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential race.
The star who brought us Katniss Everdeen and who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, is now using her voice for something much bigger than the big screen. And it’s personal for her. Here’s her inspiration behind the move.
Why Jennifer Lawrence Is Voting For Kamala Harris In 2024
In her recent conversation with People, Jennifer Lawrence didn’t mince words about why Kamala Harris has her vote. “I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate,” she said. “That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.”
“She will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights,” Lawrence added. With the 2024 election shaping up to be a battle for the future of women’s rights, Lawrence wants to make sure that her fans and fellow voters are on the same page. “That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.“
Known for her candid, often self-deprecating humor, she addressed critics who mock her for getting political. She said, “As online trolls like to point out every time I get involved in politics, I didn’t go to school, I dropped out of middle school, so I don’t have a classic education.”
But Lawrence says it’s storytelling – whether in film or real life – that truly educates her. “That’s the beautiful, amazing thing about film and documentaries. It’s very easy to forget facts until you actually see human existence and what’s going on.”
Jennifer Lawrence Is Taking Action Through Storytelling
Jennifer Lawrence’s passion for storytelling isn’t just limited to the screen. Her production company, Excellent Cadaver, is behind the creation of ‘Bread and Roses‘. It’s a film documenting the lives of three women living under the harsh rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
And ‘Zurawski v Texas‘, a documentary about the real-life consequences of Texas’ abortion laws. Both of these projects align perfectly with the political values Lawrence holds dear, especially as the country heads into a crucial election year.
Working with Malala Yousafzai, a fellow executive producer on ‘Bread and Roses‘, was a significant milestone for Lawrence. “I read Malala’s book years ago, so actually meeting her is a huge honor. And she’s unsurprisingly brilliant,” she said.

Through the stories of Afghan women — a government employee confined to her home, an activist seeking refuge in Pakistan, and a dentist organizing protests — Lawrence says she learned “what heroism really is.”
‘Zurawski v Texas‘, on the other hand, hits much closer to home. The documentary focuses on the tragic story of Amanda Zurawski, who nearly lost her life after doctors were prohibited from removing her unviable fetus due to Texas’ extreme abortion laws. Lawrence doesn’t hold back when discussing the horrors these women have faced. “Women are dying,” she states bluntly.
“These laws are made by random white men and they’re not made by healthcare providers.” By co-producing the film alongside Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, Lawrence hopes to “enlighten people’s idea of what abortion is and why certain people need abortions.”
Why Jennifer Lawrence’s Fight Matters In 2024
It’s no coincidence that both documentaries are slated for release ahead of the 2024 presidential election. With Kamala Harris and Donald Trump set to face off, Lawrence wants her audience to be informed and, most importantly, to vote.
“The most important thing that we can do right now is just vote,” she said. For Lawrence, it’s not about politics, it’s about saving lives. “Take action by voting,” she urged her fans.
