One of the most popular games in the gaming realm, the Tomb Raider franchise aimed to have a huge reboot with Sophie Turner stepping into the iconic role of the titular character, Lara Croft. Unfortunately, the production on the much-anticipated show has been temporarily halted after Turner sustained an injury. Confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios officially, the news might have saddened the fans who were looking to see the 30-year-old play the iconic role of Croft in the show.

With the cast and crew now on a break for at least a month, concerns have emerged around Sophie Turner’s recovery, as the delay could potentially extend further. According to Page Six, the actress suffered a minor injury, prompting production to pause temporarily.

Set photos from the Tomb Raider reboot recently went viral, fueling excitement among fans eager to see Turner step into the role of Lara Croft. While her recovery timeline is expected to be around two weeks, there is added caution given her history of a back injury, which had previously worsened due to the demanding schedule on set.

During an appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show, Sophie Turner opened up about the intense preparation behind filming the Tomb Raider reboot. She revealed, “We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot”.

Turner also shared details about the physical toll the demanding schedule has taken, admitting she discovered an ongoing back issue during production.

She said, “I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.”

As she now focuses on recovery and aims to return to set, it remains to be seen how soon she will be able to resume her role as Lara Croft in the highly anticipated series.
