Sophie Turner basically grew up on ‘Game of Thrones‘. She joined the show as a teenager, played Sansa Stark for years, and became one of the most recognisable faces on TV. But now she’s opened up and said she doesn’t want to do more period dramas anymore.
Even though those roles keep coming her way, Turner has been saying no. And the reason she cited for saying no has nothing to do with scripts or monetary influences.
Why Sophie Turner Is Done With Historical Dramas After ‘Game Of Thrones’

Even though Sophie Turner wasn’t interested, Hollywood didn’t exactly stop sending those kinds of roles her way. Turner said she got “a lot of period piece offers” after ‘Game of Thrones‘. It was mainly because of the temperature that she refused them. In other words, the experience had already been enough once, and she didn’t feel like signing up for the same discomfort again.

Turner explained that period dramas might look stunning on screen, but the reality is much less glamorous. She said actors are outside all the time, surrounded by mud, and wearing “a flimsy little cotton dress”. And that makes it hard to stay comfortable during long shooting days. Then she went one step further and explained the exact moment that ruined it for her.
Turner basically said this is the real reason she hates doing them: “mud gets stuck at the bottom of the dress, and when you have to go for a wee, the mud slaps your bum when you pull the dress up.” She joked that it’s really not glamorous, no matter how beautiful it looks on camera.
Period dramas might look dreamy and dramatic on screen. But filming them can be cold, messy, and awkward in ways most people never think about. After spending so many years doing that on ‘Game of Thrones‘, Turner is clearly happy leaving that chapter behind.
Sophie Turner’s Actual Struggle With ‘Game Of Thrones’

Sansa Stark was Turner’s first ever onscreen role, and it ended up becoming the biggest part of her career. She was only 13 when she got cast, and she spent a huge part of her growing-up years filming the series. Turner said she wanted to act for as long as she could remember.

Even though she loved being part of the show and enjoyed performing, the experience came with serious pressure. As the series became bigger, Turner faced intense public attention while she was still very young. On top of that, she had to film scenes that were far more mature than most people expected, including a rape scene that became one of the most difficult moments connected to her character.
Over time, Turner has acknowledged that she has dealt with depression and anxiety since her late teens. Because of that, she has also been brutally honest about going to therapy. So when ‘Game of Thrones‘ ended in 2019, it felt like a major chapter of her life closed. Turner was ready to move on and try something different. That’s why she avoided taking on similar shows after spending so many years in that world.
