Cinemas are getting packed with holiday air as Christmas releases line up on the screen. On November 11, 2022, the musical film ‘Spirited’ starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell released in selected theatres. The comic musical written and directed by Sean Anders is loosely based on Charles Dickens’ novella, ‘A Christmas Carol’. The film premiered in New York on Monday and the whole cast was seen together.
In 2019, it was announced that ‘Daddy’s Home‘ Sean Anders and John Morris were collaborating to create the musical adaptation of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’. What Is The Plot Of ‘Spirited’ Starring Ryan Reynolds?
In Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol‘, three spirits or Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come meet Scourge a sullen miser. The spirits show Scourge a Christmas night from his past, present, and future. Scourge mulling over his life resolves to bring a change in himself. Hence giving plot to the comic musical, ‘Spirited’. Ryan plays a metropolitan Clint Briggs and Ferrell plays the role of the ghost, Present.
The film varies from the novella as it portrays the story from the perspective of the Ghost. For the first time, we will see the roles of the spirit and flawed human change places. The ghost of Present chose the wrong human for reformation and is brought to the trial of consciousness himself. Present becomes bent on redeeming Clint but he brings the ghost to introspect on his life when he was alive.

How Was The Film Received?
Though the storyline sounds compelling, it has been treated with confused thoughts. Rotten Tomatoes has given the musical 63% based on thirty-eight critics’ reviews. The website commented, “Although it adds little to the long tradition of Dickens adaptations, Spirited is so genially overstuffed that it’s easy to at least intermittently enjoy.” Radio Times wrote that the film is “unruly but enjoyable”. Overall we can expect a one-time watch for the festive season.
Despite the reviews, we cannot say no to the energy of the ‘Deadpool’ actor and the humorous acting of Ferrell. The storyline and the actors are perfect to include in your Christmas movie marathon. Spirited had its premiere on Monday and can be streamed on Apple TV from 18 November 2022 onwards.
