Schafer sat down with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast and dropped some serious tea about her past relationship. She held back when it came to discussing her relationship with Dominic Fike. She candidly shared that their breakup, which was already messy due to personal issues, took a sharp turn when she discovered that Fike had cheated on her. Yep, you read that right.
According to Schafer, part of why their relationship ended was because Fike strayed, marking her first experience with infidelity. “Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” she said.
So, how did she find out? Let’s just say her instincts were on point. Schafer admitted to searching through Fike’s phone, something she’s not exactly proud of. “I’m not proud of that,” she confessed. But when you know, you know, right? For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, you know that sinking feeling when you realize your suspicions are correct. As Schafer put it, “I kind of knew,” before taking matters into her own hands to confirm her fears.

But the betrayal didn’t just affect their relationship; it fundamentally changed Schafer as a person. “It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person,” she revealed on the podcast. And while the pain of cheating is something no one wants to experience, Schafer is using it as a lesson in her life.
The actress also opened up about the challenges of being in a public relationship, especially since it was her first time dating a cis-gender man. “As a trans woman, also with a man who has never dated that [type of person] before,” she explained. “Because of the way I’ve been socialized as a trans woman, it’s been this crux in my life of what life has been so hard sometimes, I was like, ‘Oh, god is this it? Can I just not?’”
As for whether or not she’ll date another musician? Let’s just say she’s not so sure about that. “They have to go off for however many months [on] tour and then I’m working. It’s very hard,” she explained. “I don’t know if that is, like, in my path again, because I’ve done it and I’ve tried it and really tried to make it work.”
Maybe it’s a lesson for all of us to take a second look at those phones—just kidding… or maybe not?
