Maintaining humility after bagging an Oscar and reaching global stardom can be tough. But even the finest of actors sometimes eat the humble pie when the critique comes from their own homes. For Matt Damon, one specific family member has established a hilarious viewing standard.
During a recent appearance to promote his new movie ‘The Odyssey,’ the actor revealed that achieving global box office dominance isn’t enough to impress one of his daughters. She has a very specific demand from his father. Check it out below!
Matt Damon’s Reality Check At Home

On Thursday, Damon appeared on ‘Late Night With Seth Meyers’ to promote Christopher Nolan‘s latest project. When asked if his daughters are his biggest cheerleaders no matter what, the actor shared a hilarious secret. The father of four revealed that each kid supports his career “in their own ways.”

“One of my daughters, she’s got a great sense of humor and our kind of banter is she basically says she’ll only see a movie that I’m in if she hears it’s bad,” he jokingly confessed. “Just to keep me humble. She’s excellent at that.”
Mind you, ‘The Martian’ actor appeared on the same show three years ago. He then revealed that his daughter, Isabella, 20, makes sure to keep him grounded. “She is very clear about not wanting to see anything that I’m in if she thinks it might be good,” he said.
“So, if I get bad reviews or something, that’s the one she wants to see.” This fun dynamic between the duo ensures that no matter how much praise the veteran star receives from the industry, he will surely get a reality check the moment he’s home. In fact, Isabelle once savagely roasted the actor for one of his films.
Damon’s Family Shows Up At The Premiere

Later in the conversation, Damon mentioned his “not very good” movie, ‘The Great Wall,’ which came out in 2016. Turns out, Isabella even came up with the nickname for the film. “My daughter was talking to one of her friends, and she was [saying], ‘My dad did this movie The Wall.’”

“And she kept calling it The Wall, and I was finally like, ‘Isabella, that movie’s called The Great Wall.’ And she’s like, ‘Dad, there is nothing great about that movie.’” Fortunately for Damon, Isabella seems to have been fully supportive of him during the promotion of ‘The Odyssey.’
We saw her standing by his side at the film’s premieres in both New York and London. His wife, Luciana Barroso, and his three other daughters, Alexia, Gia, and Stella, were also there. “You had your whole family—the whole team came out to see The Odyssey,” Meyers pointed out of their red carpet appearance.
Damon agreed, saying it was great to see the whole family dressed to the nines, calling it a “great family night.” Moreover, the actor was emotional seeing his daughters all grown up during the movie’s promotion.
“I’m so happy they’re here. Everybody’s so grown up, like, I got a real dad teary moment seeing them today. It’s a lot. It’s wonderful, but it’s a lot,” he earlier told Entertainment Tonight at the red carpet.
In another interview with PEOPLE, the ‘Oppenheimer‘ actor revealed that he and his longtime friend and collaborator, Ben Affleck, get emotional whenever they discuss their children getting older.
He added that the duo is at a similar stage in life when it comes to kids, describing it as “a new phase of life.” For context, Affleck shares three kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner: Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel. Damon said it doesn’t take much for him and Affleck to become emotional.
He went on to explain how he is coping with his girls moving out of the house. “I feel like we are facing it and embracing the fact that it’s happening. We’ve been talking a lot about presence and about really trying to be in the moment,” he said.
“And because you can’t slow time down, the only way to really do it is to really be there and be in it,” he added. As Damon’s daughters grow up, it seems that the witty father-daughter banter will serve as a perfect anchor for their bonds.
