The lust and the greed for the Iron Throne are back with the ‘House of the Dragon.’ The trailer teases more of thundering hooves and ringing swords. The question is how far the characters can go for the throne. The upcoming HBO series, though set in the same world as ‘Game of Thrones’, will shine the light on a different story. The creator of the universe, George R. R. Martin, may have his hopes up for the new show, but the critics seem vary about its success.
The critics as well as the internet have been very harsh towards the ‘GOT‘ finale. There was backlash leveled at the finale episode of the hit series for failing to uphold the expectations of viewers. Now, Martin has responded to those slamming his work.

Fans Express Are Still Frustrated Over ‘Game Of Thrones’ Finale
Many fans have expressed their frustration with the ‘lackluster’ ending of ‘Game of Thrones‘. Some have been blaming Martin for not finishing the original books on which the show is based. They were even angry over unrealistic depictions on the show and its misogynistic tones. They have complained that these factors haven’t been improved upon and even carried on in the spin-off.
There are loads of reasons and catalyst to hate what fans used to love… Like me for example, I was a once fan of your work then instead of finishing ASOIAF you went up and finished books I don’t give a shit about… It’s been 11 years since A Dance of Dragon you genius…— waltz raphsody (@WRaphsody) June 4, 2022
George R. R. Martin Responds To The ‘Toxicity’ Directed At Him
This isn’t the first time Martin has pushed back against the toxic response to ‘Game of Thrones.’ Shortly after the show ended, the writer shared, “The internet is toxic in a way that old fanzine culture and fandoms — comics fans, science fiction fans — in those days, was not.” He had faced brutal trolling at the hands of social media and the critics. The author also explained how fandoms’ reactions have evolved over the years. While there have been feuds and disagreements, they were “nothing like the madness that you see on the internet.”
While ‘Game of Thrones‘ may have left many audiences wanting, HBO is hoping viewers will be willing to return to the world of Westeros for its ‘House of the Dragon’ series. When asked about possible criticism, Martin told The Hollywood Reporter, “The f***ing toxic internet and these podcasts out there saying that season eight left such a bad impression that people say, ‘Oh, I’m never going to watch them again’. I don’t trust them anymore.”
‘House of the Dragon‘ will focus on the beginning of the end of House Targaryen. It will cover major events in the franchise’s canon including the iconic civil war known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons.’ The trailer reminded fans of the good old seasons of ‘GOT,’ making everyone nostalgic. The sheer anxiety and desperation of the Targareyans to sit on the throne could be felt by the viewers. The exchange between the Hightowers informed fans of the back-stabbing that could take place. The lust for power will put loyalties, love and emotions to test, and only the ruthless will survive.
‘House of the Dragon’ premieres on HBO, on August 21.
