Todd Phillips‘ ‘Joker: Folie Á Deux‘ is one of those films that people either can’t wait for or are cautiously side eyeing. After the 2019 psychological masterpiece ‘Joker‘, fans were split — should there even be a sequel? And yet here we are, with ‘Folie à Deux‘ not only in production but already stirring the pot with its bold casting of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and its unexpected musical elements.
But while fans are curious about what this sequel will bring, there’s one question we can’t stop obsessing over: Will Arthur Fleck ever face Batman? The legendary Joker-Batman showdown is one we’re used to seeing in the comic book world.
Todd Phillips Talks About Arthur Fleck’s Possible Take On Batman
In a recent interview with IGN, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ director Todd Phillips shared some fascinating insight into how he believes Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck would feel about Bruce Wayne’s alter ego.
“I think Arthur would be in awe of the alpha male that is Batman. I really do. I think Arthur would look up and appreciate it,” Phillips mused.
The director went on to explain why this reaction would make perfect sense for the character we saw in ‘Joker‘. “I think Arthur always had a fascination with men at ease, and he is not a man at ease. [Robert De Niro’s] Murray Franklin in the first movie was a man at ease,” Phillips continued.
“He probably saw the guys he worked with as men at ease, and that was the one thing that Arthur could never be was a man at ease,” he added.
Is A Joker-Batman Face-Off Off The Table?
While Todd Phillips’ comments might make fans crave a Joker-Batman showdown in ‘Folie à Deux‘, it seems like that’s not happening anytime soon. Phillips did once say in 2019 that it would be “really interesting” to revisit Bruce Wayne down the line, especially a decade after the events of ‘Joker‘. But, as it stands, a third movie isn’t on the cards.
With ‘Folie à Deux‘ focusing more on Arthur’s twisted romance with Harley Quinn, we’re probably looking at a different kind of chaos. Still, the idea of a Batman encounter lingers in the background but maybe not in ‘Folie à Deux.’
In Case You Missed It: Lady Gaga Claims ‘Joker: Folie À Deux’ Is Not A Musica
And speaking of chaos, there’s another exciting update for fans. Lady Gaga is dropping a companion album for the film titled ‘Harlequin‘. Now, this might be exactly what we need to dive deeper into the musical madness of ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘.
‘Joker: Folie À Deux‘ arrives in theaters on October 2.
