Tom Cruise’s long-awaited return to the action cinema is now over. The Mission Impossible star is all set with his new release, the sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick.” The sequel to 1986’s “Top Gun” was initially supposed to hit the theatres on June 24, 2020. This plan got delayed due to COVID- 19 and is now back on track again.
Cruise has recently appeared in the South of France on Wednesday. This is for the Cannes premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick.” This premiere has hyped up the movie even more. The film received a five-minute standing ovation at Cannes. This is probably the first for an action movie since 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road.

Tom Cruise Prefers Theatres Over Streaming Platforms
Cruise got talking about the film and answered all the questions with utmost diligence. When asked whether the movie would have been released on a streaming platform, Cruise said, “That’s not going to happen. Ever.” He justified his answer by further adding, “I’ve spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen].”
Tom Cruise also said that he knew a lot of movie theater owners. He called them to deliver a message. It was, “Please, I know what you’re going through. Just know we are making ‘Mission: Impossible’ and ‘Top Gun’ is coming out.”
Cruise’s Love For Big Screen
In this small interaction, he was also clear that his movies aren’t made for Netflix or Amazon Prime. His statement being, “I make movies for the big screen.”
The actor loves the experience of watching movies at the multiplex. Cruise told the Cannes crowd that he secretly goes to the movies “with my cap on” and sits “in the audience with everyone.”
Cruise is currently filming back-to-back “Mission: Impossible” sequels. These projects have been delayed due to budget and COVID-related issues.
