When your mom is Uma Thurman, you can bet she’s got some pretty good advice about working in Hollywood, especially when it comes to a director like Quentin Tarantino.
Maya Hawke recently talked about the hilarious tip her mom gave her before she worked with him, and it’s just the kind of advice only Uma Thurman could give.
The Pro Tip That Maya Hawke Received Before Working With Quentin Tarantino

While chatting with Amy Poehler on her ‘Good Hang‘ podcast, Maya looked back on her time filming ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘, where she played one of the Manson Family members. Poehler asked if her mom had told her anything before working with Tarantino, given how often the two have worked together over the years. Without thinking twice, Maya said, “Keep your shoes on.”

That one line sent Amy Poehler into a laughing fit. She repeated it, called it “perfect advice,” and the two couldn’t stop laughing about it. It was, of course, a cheeky reference to Tarantino’s well-known habit of showing bare feet in his movies. Be it ‘Pulp Fiction‘, ‘Kill Bill‘, or ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘, it’s something fans love to tease him about. And, clearly, Uma decided to give her daughter a little warning in the funniest way possible.
Over the years, people have joked nonstop about how often Tarantino’s camera seems to find its way to someone’s feet. Uma’s “wiggle your big toe” scene in ‘Kill Bill‘ might be one of the most famous examples. Even Tarantino’s own actors have joined in on the joke.
Quentin’s Weirdly Popular Feet Fetish

At the 2020 SAG Awards, Brad Pitt cracked everyone up when he said Tarantino “has separated more women from their shoes than the TSA” and even thanked “Margot Robbie’s feet” and “Margaret Qualley’s feet” in his speech. However, Tarantino doesn’t seem too bothered by it. In a 2021 interview with GQ, he said he doesn’t take it seriously and that many great directors have done the same thing.

Maya, on the other hand, had nothing but good things to say about working with Tarantino. She called it “wonderful” and said his passion for filmmaking is contagious. You can tell she really enjoyed the experience, and for her, it was a chance to connect with someone who’s been part of her family’s movie history for decades. But her mom’s time with Tarantino hasn’t always been easy.
In a 2018 interview with The New York Times, Uma revealed she got hurt during a car stunt while filming ‘Kill Bill‘ after being pressured to drive an unsafe vehicle. Tarantino later admitted that it was “one of the biggest regrets” of his life and said a “trust was broken” between them. Even so, Uma later told Entertainment Weekly that she had forgiven him and would work with him again “if he wrote a great part.” She said that after 25 years of collaborating, their ups and downs couldn’t erase the creative history they share.
