It seems Elon Musk cannot escape the debacle of his assassination joke post on the US President Joe Biden and Vice President, Kamala Harris. The United States Secret Service recently stated that they have kept tabs on the Tesla CEO’s X post. On September 15, 2024, Musk jokingly wrote that he wondered why there had been no assassination attempts on the Democratic leaders.
Musk, who is a Republican Party supporter, was widely criticized for his post. Many believed that his words, reaching millions of people, could incite such an assassination attempt. Elon Musk took down his post amid many objections. Moreover, the US Secret Service has also assured that the officials are under no immediate threat.
The US Secret Sevices Responds To Elon Musk’s Post
Earlier this week, Elon Musk took to X and wrote, “And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala”. The X owner meant to jest after the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in July. However, the post backfired gloriously with people criticizing Musk’s words. The US Secret Service revealed that it has stepped in and looked into the Tesla owner’s remarks.

Many acknowledged that the Tesla owner’s post could entice an actual attempt on the office-holder’s lives. In response, the Secret Service stated to Reuters in an email, “The Secret Service is aware of the social media post made by Elon Musk and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence.”
They assured the Democrats’ safety saying, “We can say, however, that the Secret Service investigates all threats related to our protectees.”
Did Secret Services Approach Elon Musk For His Controversial X Post?
In their email to Reuters, the organization has not specified whether it approached Elon Musk for his joke post. The X owner replied to the failure of his deleted post on September 16. “Well, one lesson I’ve learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn’t mean it’s going to be all that hilarious as a post on X,” he said.
He continued his thought in a follow-up post, “Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text.”

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates also stated on Monday, “We all must do our part to ensure that this incident does not lead to more violence…Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about. This rhetoric is irresponsible.”
