Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s televised fight was one of the biggest events of the year. The match, which ended with Paul claiming victory, was watched by millions of people. Although both the stars have comfortably accepted the result of the match, recent sources and speculations claim that the fight was rigged in Jake’s favour.
The promoter of the match is now responding to these claims, calling them baseless and untrue. Here’s the full story.
Why Are Sources Saying Jake Paul And Mike Tyson’s Fight Was Rigged?
At AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the heavyweight match saw Jake Paul, 27, defeat Mike Tyson, 58, in eight rounds via a unanimous vote.
The well-known podcaster and UFC analyst Joe Rogan is one of the people who has implied that the fight was not “real.” “I’m happy that Mike got the money, and I’m happy that he didn’t get hurt,” Rogan said on the November 21 episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience‘. “That was my fear, that it was going to be a real fight and he was going to get hurt.”
Now the organization that collaborated with Netflix to webcast the fight between Paul and Mike Tyson on November 15th, Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, has addressed claims that the match was manipulated or falsified.
MVP said, “Rigging a professional boxing match is a federal crime. Paul vs. Tyson was a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR). Both fighters, in good faith, performed to the best of their abilities with the goal of winning the fight. There were absolutely no restrictions—contractual or otherwise—around either fighter. Each boxer was able to use his full arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary would violate TDLR boxing rules.”
They further added, “It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world’s biggest streamer—an organization that made its first-ever foray into live professional sports with Paul vs. Tyson—would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition.”
How Did Jake Paul React To The Rumours Of His Victory Being Rigged?
Jake Paul has defended himself from the rumours of his victory being rigged, speaking about it in his podcast, while also telling listeners how difficult it was to defeat Tyson.
He said, “People are like, ‘Oh, it’s rigged because look at him on the pads, but he didn’t do this in the fight.’ That’s because someone is fucking punching back, you dumb fucks. You don’t realize my power, my speed, my agility, and my footwork to get out of the way of those punches.”
Talking about what it was like to compete with Tyson, he said, “He was hard to hit. He was elusive. I was missing a lot of punches. I don’t know how he gets off to the side like that.”
