Taylor Swift‘s ‘Eras Tour‘ got an unexpected dose of sitcom humor during her Toronto performance on Saturday, November 23, courtesy of her trusty dancer Kam Saunders. As she performed her breakup anthem ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together’, Swift burst into laughter after a ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ reference.
The show has many iconic dialogues and characters, but none is more beloved than the classic “Ew, David“, that the chirpy Alexis throws at her brother David, played by Dan Levy on the show. The same two words sent Taylor Swift into laughter during her performance. Here’s what happened.
Here’s Why Taylor Swift Burst Out Laughing On Stage Mid-Performance
During her latest Eras Tour performance, Taylor Swift waited before letting go of the mic as she delivered a famous line from her hit song, ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together‘. “This is exhausting. We are never getting back together,” she sang, only to have Saunders surprise her by shouting in a hilariously high-pitched voice: “Ew, David! Ew!“

This reference to the popular TV series ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ made the pop star chuckle on stage. For the initiated, the line has become an iconic line that Alexis Rose, played by Annie Murphy, religiously uses countless times throughout the comedy series.

She even shared it with her own fans when Dan Levy, who played the hysterically neurotic David Rose, reposted the viral moment to his Instagram story, cheekily captioning it “V chill,” while tagging his on-screen sister, Murphy.

Fans of ‘Schitt’s Creek‘ were over the moon with the unexpected nod to their favorite show. Annie Murphy herself has previously admitted to sneaking in as many “Ew, David” moments as possible during the series’ six-season run. “It’s in the hundreds,” she revealed to ‘Us‘ in 2021, “I’m not angry about it.”
This isn’t the first time Saunders has been at the forefront of Swift’s performances with his creative takes. Known to spice up the bridge of ‘We Are Never Getting Back Together‘, Saunders has previously included local languages while on tour internationally to the delight of Swifties worldwide.
