A black cloud has emerged over the Sports world. The renowned surfer and skateboarder Kalani David is no more. As per the news reports, the Hawaiian surfer died in Costa Rica on September 17th, 2022. Kalani was born in Oahu, Hawaii on November 4th, 1997. At the time of his death, he was only 24 years old.
According to reports, the surfer died while doing what he loved. Kalani suffered from a seizure while surfing in Costa Rica. So, what exactly led to the death of the prodigy at such a young age? It is said to be Wolff-Parkinson-White(WPW) syndrome!

Kalani David Died Due To Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) Syndrome, A Heart-Related Disease
As per the reports from Inertia, “WPW syndrome is a condition in which there is an extra electrical pathway in the heart that leads to periods of rapid heart rate (tachycardia).” The first bout of attack hit the surfer in August 2016 when he had a seizure while skating in Oceanside, California. And at the end of 2016, he suffered a second bout of a stroke which lasted for six hours that almost killed him. What exactly is this deadly syndrome?
This syndrome affects one in three out of 1,000 people worldwide. The rarity of the condition has not led to any severe consequences for the people. According to John Hopkins Medicine, “The biggest risk is for sudden death from a heart attack, which tachycardia can cause. However, this is extremely rare, occurring in less than one-half of 1 percent of cases.”
Tributes Showered From All Across The World For The Young Prodigy
Kalani David was a passionate athlete. He learned to surf on the beaches of Miami when he was just one-and-a-half years old. Cartoon Networks recognized him in a talent show. On top of it, in 2008, he won the NSSA National Surfing title in the Mini Grom Division in his debut act. He was featured in Jonny Moseley’s special. During the show, pro-skater Bob Burnquist and Andy Irons surprised him. David also appeared in two film projects namely ‘Soul Surfer,’ and ‘Six Days In Paradise.’
Photographer Peter King and Kelly Slater extended condolences on his tragic death. Slater wrote, “Kalani was one of the most talented surfer/skaters on Earth. Constantly pushing the limits every time he was on his feet. Condolences to the huge community of friends Kalani had coast to coast and across the globe.”
